Basic Aikido Techniques
Ikkyo - First Teaching: Elbow control. Leveraging uke to the ground to an arm pin by controlling elbow and wrist.
Nikyo - Second Teaching: Wrist control. A pronating wrist lock that torques the arm. In ura there’s an added arm/wrist Z-lock.
Sankyo - Third Teaching: Wrist control. A rotational wrist lock, or forearm twist, that directs a spiraling tension throughout the arm, elbow and shoulder.
Yonkyo - Fourth Teaching: Esoteric control. The most how-the-hell do I do this right technique in my Aikido repertoire. The one that only works on little kids who are still smaller than me.
